Upcoming Events @ Darn Yarn

At Darn Yarn we use the following terms/definitions to define our offerings:

  • C/KAL - C/KAL stands for crochet-a-long or knit-a-long. That means we all crochet/knit the same project during the designated time. We offer these as a way to stretch our skills or tackle a project that's on a few of our bucket lists. They are fairly unstructured, the project is the only requirement. You may learn a new skill or technique, but it's not structured as a class.
  • Class - This is a structured time when participants learn a specified skill or technique, often it's project based and has prerequisites like skills, yarn, needles/hooks.
  • Groups - these meet regularly, and are informal, no set instruction. Groups are great for those who just need some designated stitching time or want to be around other stitchers. They're a great learning space, but there is not curriculum! We solve each other's stitching problems, get a some work done, and have a generally happy time. Bring your current WIP (work in progress) and a positive attitude. Beginners are welcome, all skill levels and styles are too.
  • Workshop - Often listed as a C/KAL, these focus on a skill or technique using a specified pattern but are fairly unstructured. There's much encouragement, "hand-holding", and help, but it's not a structured class. There's an assumed amount of skill required; i.e. if it's a cable workshop making a hat, we assume you can already knit in the round. Many of our events fall into this category (often instructor is also shopkeeper and we don't feel it's fair to attendees or visitors to divide our time).
The fine print...

A brief note about masks and groups/classes:

The mask mandate in PA has been lifted. However, if you are uncomfortable mask-less, that's fine! Wearing a mask is acceptable here, especially if you're unvaccinated, immunocompromised, or care for someone who is.

If you have recently been exposed to, or have visited somewhere with higher rates of Covid, please take all the necessary precautions, including staying home.

Also, if you are unwell, please consider staying home (or masking up, if it's not terribly serious/contagious). We'll miss you, but nobody wants cooties. ;)

Your cooperation helps keep your LYS (local yarn shop) a physically safe space.

Not all events listed are classes. We include Harmony wide events for your planning purposes.

Please pay attention to any prerequisites, they're there for your benefit. Time is valuable, and we don't want to take up yours by covering techniques/skills that are foundational for the subject of the class (i.e. knitting in the round at a sock class).

You may register for a class here, on the site, or visit the shop.

Registration closes at noon the business day prior to class.

It is the learner's responsibility to show up for the class/workshop. No refunds for missed classes.

Class sizes may be limited. Workshops and stitch-a-longs are generally open for more participants.
